As good as it is that we have news coverage of all this, I am almost physically ill about the way its being handled.
First, I am very very glad to have a resource like the net, even tho all the main newsites were unreachable to me yesterday morn, I was able to glean some info from forums, other sites like arstechnica.com, and so on.

The fact that this has been packaged, sorted, labeled,.... that's just wrong in ways that words cannot serve me to describe right now. I am willing to say that all said and done, over 10,000 are dead in NYC. yes, I often speak of 'culling trhe herd'. Yes, I often explode at the sheer stupiudity displayed by other humans.

This, fo rmew, is way different.

For me, I can think of a lot o fgood people just trying to go to work, earn a wage, and carve a path thru this life as best they can. Granted, among the 10,000 many must have een people that I would have wanted to spit on had they ever given me the chance to gauge their worth, but among them as well were those that I would have gladly eaten a meal with over a table. Sat down with and shared stories of things we had in common.
The scope of this is hard for me to deal with alone, so thats why I'm posting this here.

The disrespect I think this shows towards the dead, the families of the dead, and those fo us that have to deal with it here and now, and forevermore, is huge. Yes, corporate america, the very thing that it would seem the perps were attacking, is who I am also pissed at. Instead of unleashing hate and death about it, I want to try to unleash ideas that I have concerning all this.
Ideas are a lot harder to stop than a rampaging madman, or a bullet, or a jet slamming into a building.
Ideals, even, are what we live by. The fact that some of us choose to work for our belongings, while others steal, are a display of ideals. I have to try to nicorporate all this into a new view of life that had been forced on me, but what I dont have to do is use prepackaged bits of filthy propaganda and disinformation to do that. I am holding everything I hear and see suspect. Shit, I even told RW that at first, I thought this might all be CGI created footage showcasing a new video card for the consumer market.
yeah, it wasnt really funny the first time I typed it either.....

THis isnt Orwellian, this isnt going to go away, and the fact that EVERY TV and radio station was pumping the same info at me was odd, frighteneingly so. Every website I viewed was liek reading a minute by minute recreation of the things I've heard about in history. Speculation, hearsay, doubt.....
And thru it all, I kept watching the palnes slam into tower 2, over and over again... like a fucking pathetic moron gaping at the end of the world. I almost cried a few times last night as I sat at a friends apartment, talking.... just talking aobut how we felt. Granted, typing all this out helps. Like Kol said ni the past, I might just be able to re-read this in months to come, and reflect on how I felt then, but to hear the words fo another, and moine in response, really helped. Kayla, you seem especially upset by all this, if you havent already, just TALK to someone about this.
I have seen pictures of peopel climbing and falling from the towers. I have heard of the one police officer who 'rode' down 80+ stories of tower and onyl suffered 2 brokien legs. All this is horrific, yet.. part of it all, a part that cant be ignored. Fact is, I still am pissed at the media's handleing of it.

Ok, end of rant.

its crazy. This is the first prime time cable etc terrorist attack. Waco doesn't count. That was just a) small and b) you couldn't see most of what happened.

This is the new generation. All 4 free to air channels were playing the same shit. Oh well. Fuck it. It'll be over soon as soon as some other shit hits the news

"who are these? Why sit they in twilight?
Wherefore rock they, purgatorial shadows,
Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish,
Baring teeth that leer like skulls' teeth wicked?
Stroke on stroke of pain, -but what slow panic
Gouged these chasms round their fretted sockets?
Ever from their hair and through their hands' palms
Misery swelters. Surely we have perished
Sleeping, and walk in hell; but who these hellish?"

we discussed this in class yesterday, and the teacher said, "the media should stop and think before saying anything. the media has to handle this well..."

The Gulf War should count. ( not terroristic, but still a CNN war.)

Turn on to Fox News.
One ticker at the bottom spouting facts like "Pope condemns act of terrorism" and other shit like that.

Another ticker announcing more recent happenings.

A huge banner stating "Attack on America!"

I actually got out a tape measure. Their crappy banner takes almost 1/3 of the screen. This irritates me.

The only thing that irritates me more is the reporter asking a fireman / rescue worker "You've been at this for 24 hours...What motivates you?" Or, "You just lost a loved one in a plane crash...How do you feel?"

At least Fox and CNN don't have the high profile anchor men competing for 'face time'

Some of it's magic..

well, Gulf War had that sort of thing, but nothing like this scale of events. Even the bombing of Baghdad or the Iraqui retreat out of Kuwait didn't get this attention. This is out in the open, documented, footage. Every motherfucking reporter has their own 'angle', their own 'special interest' story on the thing, from the person who designed the thing to the people who saw it, to ordinary people in LA.

Everyone has the same footage looped every hour or so, interspersed with new conjecture and bullshit that they churn up. Any real evidence we can gain is almost smothered in this SHIT.

God damn the fourth estate. It will be the end of society as we know it. Reality TV has taken the next level, it invades your life on more levels than ever before, and gives you less.............

guys, I am inclined to agree with some of what you are saying, but only some.

I have been watching Fox News Channel, and while the "Terrorism hits America" banner is somewhat annoying, I have to say that I am satisfied w/ the coverage? Why, because it allows me to stay caught up w/ what is happening.

Bash the media if you see it fit, but king bastard, you said "Selling death wholesale, film at...well, film all day long."

How are they selling it? I have yet to see ONE commercial On Fox Or CNN. If you think they are doing this SOLEY because "it's all about the money" I think you are wrong. You have to remember that many of them probably had friends in that building. They are experiencing the same emotions as we are, and they are wondering the same thoughts as us. They though, have the ability to keep those not in New York City up to date on what is happening, and I for one, am glad of that. On top of that, we are able to see what "Top" people in the white house, and senate/congress are saying in interviews, press conferences, ect. I am glad to have the ability to know what congress or senate or the president is able to do. Granted, some of it they should keep to themsleves, and some questions asked are stupid, but I say over all, that I am glad that I am able to have this link to be able to see what is going on. Why? Not because I have some morbid fascination with it, but because I, like most everyone in here I am sure, care about what is happening, we care about the people, and our nation, and how this is going to affect everyone.

Just my thoughts.

RAge, the following is not meant to be taken as my trying to bash you in any way:

It's the sasme setup as always. There might not be tons of commericals between the footage loops, but... the large graphics, the talking heads all vieing for more 'face time' (where is Face at BTW?), the whole packaging of it all.

I too am glad to be in 'the know' as it were, even if a lot of it is disinformation like I believe it to be. The Japanese believe that half if not more of a gift is in the presentation of said gift. They take great care to wrap it just right, to arrange the offering in such a way that maximum pleasure is gained by the acceptance of the gift, and the events leading to the recipient taking possien of the gift.

We could use some of that here.

This knowledge, even if its untrue at times, is a gift. It takes away the feeling of uncerrtainty that comes with not knowing just what in the fuck is going on. When laid out garishly as it has been, I get offended.

MSNBC has the small rainbow peacock icon between all text blurbs that run across the bottom of the screen, if that isnt blatant attempts at re-enforcing product recognition, then the practice doesnt even exist.

So no, we dont get to see Honest Earls Car-lot-o-rama hawking the best used deals in town, but we do get slammed with ingenious ways of making sure we KNOW who kept us abreast of goings on.

And THAT makes me ill. Yes, no doubt some fo those working to tell us the news had lost people they cared for. But it isnt stopping the mighty meatgrinder that is the news corps.

I dont take it as such, and in fact, agree with most of those statements. They are trying to do that in some respects.

I will make a note though to, that many times they show footage at the same time as showing people talking, and more often than not (from the little I have watched on CNN), they have someone talking over the actual footage.

But well said KB.

The same people who brought you O.J. Simpson and tell you what all the polls say are playing the remixxed version of this tradgedy over and over all day long...in slow motion with music in the background.

Fuck them.

Turn on FOX (since its been mentioned so much) they have an EXPERT on and while hes in one little window talking they have a replay of some random dramativ sequence replaying over and over.
Anyone notice those windows look JUST like the new media player?
I expect to see water dancing to the music.

Yes, I want to hear what progress has been made. When it is confirmed.
Yes, I want to hear what my elected officials (see: people who may get me killed yet) have to say.
When they have something to report.

I DONOT want to hear what some bimbo who couldn't hack it as an actress has to say.
I DONOT care what the weathermans take on all this is.
I have a group of people I speak to on a daily basis and I get my real-life human opinions from them (you).

I need the news.
On the hour.
Every hour.

If I want commentary I'll listen to Rush.

I guess those sharks all left Florida.
I guess no one is killing there whole family anywhere right now.
Makes you wonder why that stuff happen to begin with.
Right?
