<FONT COLOR="Orange">Here it comes. Our civil liberties be damned, it's coming. The terrorist attacks upon the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001 will be the catalyst that sparks nationwide implementation of these technologies. It will be in the airports. It will be in government facilities. It will be everywhere in between in the name of security. There will be little to no opposition to the implementation of facial recognition technologies. (http://www.facial-scan.com/facial-scan_technology.htm) The masses will be told that is necessary to prevent more terrorism. They will welcome it. They'll demand it even.

The people want to feel safe within U.S. borders. They will gladly trade a measure of freedom for an illusion of security.

Gravity just got cranked up a notch on this downward spiral. Wheeeee.

I'm still 100% against the technology. I believe you are right, however, and that the public will embrace it with open arms.

The terrorists that have been identified have not been linked as 'known terrorists' in the USA and therefor would not register as a problem with the scanners. They'll likely forget to mention this while they're wiring up the devices. We need to look to the basics for better security.

1. ) No carry on luggage. Zero. Zip. Nada. If you need asthma medicine, snacks, tampoons, or any other necessities; they go in a clear ziplock baggy to carry on the plane. We require kids in some schools to use see through backpacks for just the same reasons. The guy with three carry-on's, a laptop computer, cellphone and Newsweek tucked under his arm will just have to check all that shit at the luggage counter.

2.) The flight cabin door is to remain locked. PERIOD. Pee before you get on, Capt. Ron, or suffer the consequences. I don't care what they threaten to do to the passengers or crew... I need you up there flying this shit straight.

I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff later, but this seems pretty obvious to me.

well, seeing as how airplanes have autoflight which is advanced enough that it can do anything other than take off or land, why not just enable someone on the ground to be able to take control away from the cockpit?

that way if this plane was hijacked, then it'd still end up flying to its destination..

well, it doesnt matter whether the cockpit door remains shut. All it needs is some fucker with a knife saying 'open the door or I kill one of the crew every 10 seconds, and then after that I go onto the passangers'. There would be plenty to go around. What pilot before today would think that there would be people trying to crash the plane into shit? I mean, they would think, and probably have to if they have any humanity, let it open and try and negotiate, or fly where they want to go and negotiate from there. Because there are too many variables to just 'close the door'. The ziplock bags doesnt sound too bad though. But it might be a bit hard. If you are on a 12 hour flight, you might want to get some work done, or read something, perhaps call someone. But its a better idea than some i've heard............... http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

"who are these? Why sit they in twilight?
Wherefore rock they, purgatorial shadows,
Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish,
Baring teeth that leer like skulls' teeth wicked?
Stroke on stroke of pain, -but what slow panic
Gouged these chasms round their fretted sockets?
Ever from their hair and through their hands' palms
Misery swelters. Surely we have perished
Sleeping, and walk in hell; but who these hellish?"

Good point about the pilots. We should have seen using the actual plane as a weapon coming. Days forward.....screw the crew, screw the passengers...must look out for both ground and air safety. Being a commercial air pilot just got a lot harder.

As for longer flights, books and magazines are already available to passengers on planes. With no carry-on or overhead luggage allowed, the selection might be able to be increased.

Anything that would involve that, would also open up the chance of terrorists being able to pull control of the plane from the pilots in an unfindable position. That would make it, in my opinion, harder to avoid high-tech terrorism, then it is now.

And yes, it would be hard to do, but anything that can be controlled by remote control, can be taken over by someone else. And you dont know how to get it back till the situation comes and it could take to long to figure out at that point.

Well, I was more pointing out that people might want to do work on laptops, so the ziplock bag thingy might not go down to well with the business community, but some midpoint could be reached.

And with numerous ground crew and the size of airports these days, if people are determined and plan well enough, something can be stashed on board. You can't prevent it.

One terrorism expert formerly with HRT was called up to talk to a comittee in Congress, and was asked 'If I gave you all the resources you needed, could you garuntee that there would be no more hijackings?"

The man replied "yes. I would ground all the planes". Otherwise you cant do it. But you can stop most of it. Like 4 being hijacked in the same day.................
