Man, this guy is gotta be hiding in some hole somewhere. He will have to for a long time.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. officials investigating the series of attacks Tuesday in New York and Washington are setting their sights on Osama bin Laden, the millionaire Saudi fugitive who has been blamed for past terrorist attacks against American targets.

"There are good indications that persons linked to Osama bin Laden may be responsible for these attacks," an intelligence official told CNN.

Intelligence sources said they based their assessment on new information they had gathered Tuesday afternoon, hours after airplanes slammed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. They did not rule out the possibility that other groups may have been involved.

Terrorism experts, after reviewing the magnitude of the attacks, said few groups in the world would have the resources to carry out such a highly coordinated sequence of destruction. One of those organizations, they said, would be the Al Quaida group headed by bin Laden, who also is the suspected mastermind of the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.

U.S. officials said they had received no credible claim of responsibility in the aftermath of Tuesday's events, but said their "working assumption" laid responsibility for the attacks on "overseas terrorism."

All planes hijacked

Senior FBI officials said they suspect the four jets involved in the chilling sequence of crashes had been hijacked. Two of the jets plunged into the World Trade Center's twin towers, leading to their collapse a short while later. Another struck a wall at the Pentagon, and a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania.

FBI personnel were dispatched to airports and crash sites immediately afterward to try to determine responsibility for the disaster. U.S. intelligence officials said they would be contacting all their sources and going through intelligence intercepts in an intense search for evidence.

Investigators will be combing passenger lists, airport videotapes and cockpit voice recorders to piece together the events leading up to the attacks. They also will review lists of suspected terrorists known to be able to fly commercial aircraft, sources said.

"We are looking for any shred of information that could help," one official said

Officials say they had no intelligence beforehand that a massive terrorist plot was under way, though at least one lawmaker says intelligence analysts suspected lesser attacks had been planned during the summer.

'Lies, lies, lies'
Several Palestinian groups have already denied responsibility for the attacks, as well as bin Laden's Al Quaida group. Officials of the Taliban government in Afghanistan also issued denials, saying bin Laden, believed to be in hiding in that country, was not involved and had not launched any attacks from Afghan territory.

One U.S. intelligence official received the Taliban statement with a sneer. "Lies, lies, lies," the official said.

Some members of Congress also blamed bin Laden.

"This looks like the signature of Osama bin Laden," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who had been briefed by high-level government officials on the attacks. "We're going to find out who did this and we're going after the bastards."

Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, agreed."I have no doubt in my mind it's Osama bin Laden," he told CNN. "It's very much in keeping with the threats he has made."

A number of attempted attacks, or plans for attacks, have been "thwarted" this summer, said Kerry. CIA Director George Tenet briefed him on the failed efforts a few weeks ago, he said.

"who are these? Why sit they in twilight?
Wherefore rock they, purgatorial shadows,
Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish,
Baring teeth that leer like skulls' teeth wicked?
Stroke on stroke of pain, -but what slow panic
Gouged these chasms round their fretted sockets?
Ever from their hair and through their hands' palms
Misery swelters. Surely we have perished
Sleeping, and walk in hell; but who these hellish?"

I whole heartedly pray that Dingle is correct.

But I ask....who is waiting to take his place?

Like the man after Gorbechev (sp?)
The men in line behind Castro.
The men constantly vieing for Saddam Hussein's spotlight (most of whom he has killed)

Whats at the next level?

im guessing not only the US, but the whole world will take a new stance on terrorism. GW said something along the lines of "we'll not only hold the individuals liable but the countries that harbor them". i can only hope he means what he implies, and stays true to his word. I hope it means a true zero tolerance policy on terrorism, meaning fuck international laws, if your country shelters, supports, harbors, finances or breeds terrorism we're taking your ass out, because OUR lives are our priority and youre a threat. I hope it means The Taliban will give us bin laden on a platter, and if not we're bombing the fuck outta em. I hope it means the world gets the message we wont stand for this, you fuck with us we're fucking you up beyond belief. You breed hate for the US in your country, in your children, we're gonna put a stop to it before the next skyscraper falls, before the next embassy is bombed, before the next jetliner blows up.

I pray and hope thats what he meant and thats what he intends and thats what he'll do. Itll probably fuel the hatred for the US for awhile, but i think we have most of the worlds sympathy, and its what we have to do. We have a right to protect ourselves beyond international laws and treaties.
Bin Laden will die, i have no doubt, but thats not enought. We need and i think will get a new stance, not simply called 'zero tolerance', but practicing zero terrorsim tolerance worldwide. Bush is in quite a position right now, and nearly every person on this planet is anticipating his next move.

What did it do to the followers of Jesus when they crucified him?

killing this fucker would be the worst possible thing we could do. He will be more powerful in death than he ever could be alive.

well, actually, CD, they were disheartened and were going to scatter, and were fearing for their lives after Christ died. Only when he appeared to the (Alive again) did they come back totally to the faith and go out from there, creating Chrisianity thoughout the Middle east and Southern Europe, and bits of North Africa.

I DONT think that Bin Laden will come back. Especially from a cruise missile

But thats just me

But yeah, I dont want him to become a martyr. But what else can you do with him? Holding him would a) be almost impossible to do in the first place (capturing)

And then b) hloding onto him. This fucker has a terror network only rivaled by the IRA. And his followers are more fanatical and well funded for the most part, even if they are not as well trained. Trying to keep this guy in deep freeze would be almost impossible. Terror attacks, etc. But he doesnt do any more rallying when dead.

Did anyone else notice that all day yesterday every news broadcaster seemed pleased with our "yearly aid" to israel?

Did you notice that noone noticed our part in the UN ban on selling israel arms.

Did you notice that no one said a word about the UN's small arms ban that topped the news a few weeks ago?

I hope part of Dubyas plan involves picking a side.
Yesterday we wanted to think that we support Israel but we have groups running around supporting parts of the countrys that we are now being told support terrorists.
I watched Ollie North this morning.
This is the stuff he was working to take care of directly when the whole Iran/Contra thing happened.

I also watched Collin Powel this morning.
I hope I get to vote for him one day.
He actually answered a "yes or no" with the word "no"

bin laden is a billionare, taking him out would take out the funding for his terrorist network, and the 'mastermind'. in the process of offing him id hope most of his followers would perish also.

Killing the millionaire won't get rid of the monies. I am certain that he has made arrangements for his 'group' to be financially capable of carrying out the 'mission' if he should be extinguished.

THese seem like the hydra of myth, these organizations.
cut off a head, 2 grow back .

Ideas.....

once released, are really hard to kill. Sure, you can kill the original source of an idea, but that thought itself, that's a damn near impossible thing to snuff out.

The idea a lot of us now have is to kill the responsible party. Think for a minute. Harken back to smaller tragedies that we have all talked about. Like when some fool rapes a person, most fo us want the victim to be avenged, but not neccessiarly to kill the perp. If we are to 'win' this 'war', I feel that we'll have to be cold and level headed about this revenge. Emotions are high. That's to be expected. Killing the root might not be the wisest course, but to disable it... we MUST do this.

Be it an outside threat, an internal threat, what have you. We need to carry on in a logical, well thought out manner.

Death is not always the end of a thing.
Revenge is not always carried out at the tip of a bullet.
We are all thinking way differently now, lets keep it up.
