"Too many Admins!" by Denominator

[Denominator]

This place has too many Admins. theMAC suggested I do a topic about how to make it better. I don't really know how, but I've got some general ideas.

First, the owner of the Forum inscribes the law of the place on two stone tablets. Every Admin has to keep to these laws if he wants to take any drastic action (deleting posts/topics, moving stuff where others can't see it, banning posters).
Secondly, instead of making every second poster an admin (I don't really know who or how many admins there are, but it sure seems a lot) the forum master should see to it that there is at least one poster and no more than two at any time. That sounds pretty stupid, but usually a poster/admin will read a forum at a certain time. So RogueWarrior is usually on from, let's say, 2pm-6pm, then EA is usually on at 5pm-8pm (taking into account the time zones, temporal distortion fields and digital fallout, off course)....errr...that sounds like the way it is now...constant observation...

Now that I think about it that idea is pretty fucking stupid. Even if it would work properly there would still be too many admins here. THe bottom line is that this place doesn't need that many admins. THT doesn't have as much traffic as the SPF or even other forums. That means that if, heaven forbid, someone actually posts something disagreable (seems to happen a lot lately) that blaspheming post will probably be up and viewable for *GASP* a couple of hours!!!

Yet I think my virgin eyes would survive these occasional horrors.

Actually I asked you to post on managment styles.

In a large fluid non-timeframe oriented managment struture where no one has any wages or benefits ventured how do you propose to safely and effectlively manage a large unknown group of people in all stages of intoxication and menatlity?

You can do the kindergarten method.
One teacher yelling while everyone runs crazy
"don't jump on that!"
"stop pulling her hair!"
and occasionally spanking someone.

the highschool method
One realy sad and depressed underachiever in charge of a group of people who have no reason to listen until they get sent to the office where a administrative figure tells them how much trouble they're in and calls their authority figures.

the college method
a book that changes every 6 months tells you that you will be overcharged for the right to be here and the administration hopes you are more interested in being somewhere else so they can throw you out when you default on the rather untangible ruling of a board somewhere

the employment method
some guy make his money based on you doing things a certain way then he sets up a perilous chain of middle managment to make sure you do what you're told.
You can do what you like of course but you'll be fired and then forced to do it agian somewhere else.

the democratic method
we all are supposed to get together (but only about 3 of us do) and decide who we want to spend time making the decisions we have no time to make. That person tells us to pick them. and we do. then they do waht they want and tell us what to do.

the monarchy
one ruler gives priveldges to a small group of people he knows he can control.
they keep everyone else from trying to get a different managment style

independant selection
in every group a few will seperate themselves to lead. give them the simplest guidlines possible. and try to avoid the monarchy. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/wink.gif

First of all, you people are talking about locking/deleting/editing threads and whatnot. That is something that is done by moderators, NOT admins. So that word should not even be used here. Yes, admins can do the aforementioned tasks, but the difference is that admins can also ban people, which is NOT part of the issue, so I'm going to use the correct terminology here.

I don't understand why the Asylumnites are complaining here. You probably have more moderators than we do. 16, as I counted. I don't remember exactly how many we have, but I think it's around 13. How can you come down on us for having too many when you have even more?

I have an unusual managment style at work.

I am given the responsibility of doing a task but not he authority to do it.
So I make my own....
When something is done right no one cares whether you are allowed to do it or not.
See, basically, if you can be trusted to do a good job then they don't have to manage you.
The real need for a heirarchy derives from the fact that no one wants to just turn over something important to them to someone else.
Doing that leads to people standing around when it over pointing fingers and saying
"But I thought you we're in charge of that."

I have certain guys at work that do what needs to be done and they do it right.
I just say "we have to get this done" I make sure they have what they need and I get the hell out of the way.
If they have trouble I get my butt in ther and I help out.

My boss on the other hand.
...hands out responsibility pellets.

Never giving you enough to do what you need to do.
And always expecting you to know what he has not given you.

Yesterday I was complaining. I was also largely agreed with in my complaints. So I am not some rouge asshole out to constantly bitch about the site, nor are my complaints neccessarily unfounded. I think the last time I posted at THT before last night had something to do with real names, and the times before that I have NEVER, to my knowledge, come here to complain. If you would like to try and find examples here of me doing that, I challenge you. Double dare.

Furthermore, what has this got to do with your supposed hordes of Asylumites complaining? If you read this thread, NO Asylumites said ANYTHING until AFTER you fucking starting BITCHING about Asylumites complaining about too many admins.

i came here under the impression that freedom was the primary concern, and that limitations on said freedom was not to be tolerated. i assumed that rw's politics and philosophy would not allow such limitations.
i have been informed that wario's word is not law, and that his ideals no longer make up the basis of the administration of the site. that in itself is not a problem, but when the forum rules go against what i perceive as the intellectual foundation of the site, it becomes an apparently glaring hypocrisy.

i do not like it, and am subsequently packing my bags. i am most certainly not happy about leaving, and will not return unless this issue is somehow resolved.
