This question is directed towards Rogue, sp00ky having left for the time being, but anyone can answer it.

A philosophical/political question...

How can you believe in the Jeffersonian idea of inborn (inalienable) rights with such a pessimistic view of the human condition? If you think humans are wretched, it follows that you don't think they deserve the rights they have (and by extension, neither do you, unless you consider yourself to be "above" other people--should we change your forum alias to "Ubermensch?"). This is the same ethic that the government uses and is using to erode our rights so if you could please explain to me how you uphold Lib ideals with this worldview I'd love to hear it.

But membership in a group shouldn't restrict my rights. If I am a part of a mob mentality, act against the mob, not against the individuals in the mob.

Also, last I checked, our rights were not based on our intelligence, they "come from the hand of God Himself." I think that was Jefferson.

Squee, I can't speak for libertarian ideals but I personally believe that your "god-given" rights must be practiced before they become inaleinable.

The debate on gun control constantly takes us to the fact that many countrys have been limiting armament of the civilians since the dark ages and they don't have an NRA or anything like it.
Do they miss a right we want to fight for over here?

I believe if they had it suddenly they might.
If they valued it they certainly would.
