hello.
in light of Kol's recent revelation of real name, i've been thinking. i LIKE this name. it's a name i chose for myself. sure, it was a joke originally, but i've grown quite attached to it (feel free to include your own thoughts on names in general here, i don't want to force you all to witness my one-sided conversation).
that said, it's not like i dislike my real name. i don't think of myself as Buddha's Penis!, or *******, i think of myself as i. the thing is, i'm hesitant to reveal my given name because i'm hesitant to lose the identity of Buddha's Penis!. i now think when referring to Kol "Kol or Mike?" and i would like to avoid this in my own case.

of course, this keeps me at an impersonal level, doesn't it? even the nature of the name of BP! is impersonal, as it describes a possessed thing, as if i'm an object. i suppose this is appropriate in it's own way too. i AM an object. i'm a brain in a jar.

My original online nick was Hapax Legomenon. Found it while flipping through a dictionary looking for something else. It refers to a word that is only used once, usually in really old literature. Since it is used only once, the meaning is unclear at times. The meaning of the nick was kind of relevant to my philosophy and the word itself seems like a name.

Then I found nutriment and like the -ia ending. It also has an ambiguous touch of dement-ia, milit-ia, C-IA, M-IA, etc. etc. I like it. You can call me Nute if you wish. (Nut just doesn't seem right to me, but many people call me that too.)

I am the one and only Nutrimentia onine though, and use it whereever I log on.

My friends often call my J-rod, though, as an abbreviation of my given name. That is my IRL "alias" I suppose.

Funny thing though, I have spent the last year and a half living vicariously online. When I first started doing forums at SPF, I chose the handle Paint CHiPs, as that is my nickname with a lot of people. As in "did you eat paint chips when you were a kid?" from Tommy Boy. But because of my total immersion in the internet, I have come to view Paint CHiPs as my other real name. I answer to it in real life, I have friends, mostly Asylumites I have met, who refer to me solely by my handle. It has gotten to the point where I have asked myself if I got published, which name would I be published under (fat chance to be sure, but still).

I am so 100% my internet self, and my internet self is so 100% me, that Brad and Paint CHiPs are interchangable. Granted, there are big differences between my conduct online versus my conduct off, but still. I have no clue as to where Paint CHiPs begins and Brad ends.

I am not even sure there is a line between them at all.
