I don't pay too much attention to the news sometimes and some how I must have missed this. But my mother said something about they are sending out a extra $500 to people that have already filed their taxes and depending on the status under which you filed will decide how much they send you.. does anyone know anything about this? She said it was on the news.. obviously wasn't the day I watched.. lol...

information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, solo perants and unemployed people, while getting between 20% to 30% less than single working people (who should receive the full $500) will be getting their refunds sometime next week.

Single working people and married couples may have to wait until the beginning of July to receive their checks.

PB

so they are going to send it to everyone.. even those that got a refund already?

you said solo parent... and unemployed.. and then said something about single working people who are the ones that should get it..

does that include single working parents? or just singles in general? just looking for clarification.. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

Thank you both for the information ..

Mudflap = Single + 0 dependents

I expect 0 dollars to be refunded to me under George W's new tax plan. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the IRS were to tax me again, just to help cover the checks being cut for all the poor, miserable, married citizens and those with "dependents."

For the year Jan. 1 - Dec 31, 2000:

% of my wages withheld for Federal Tax: 14.57%

% Federal Tax refunded: 2.71%

Therefore, the Federal Govt. has unconstitutionally extorted from me 11.86% of my wages.

% of my wages withheld for State Tax: 5.87%

% State Tax refunded: 0.033%

Therefore, the State Govt. of NC has unconstitutionally extorted from me 5.837% of my wages.

% of my wages withheld for Social Security Tax: 6.20%

% of my wages withheld for Medicare Tax: 1.45%

% chance I will ever benefit from Social Security or Medicare in my lifetime: 0.00%

% total of my wages taxed: 25.35%

It's great to know that the government believes they are entitled to a larger percentage of my meager income due to the fact that I have been wise enough and responsible enough to neither get married nor have children.

To any of you that receive that notorious $600 refund, You're welcome. I'll continue to bust my ass and carry a larger tax burden so that you won't have to. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/mad.gif

here is another story about the tax cut.

http://www.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/06/07/tax.primer/

and a quote from it
"Those who had absolutely no tax liability (their tax bill was 0, or they got a rebate from the government) will not get a rebate check."

i guess that's what you get when government sees the top 1% as deserving an "equal break", huh?

to me it seems the top 1% is getting the shitty end of the deal, for instance if i make $12,000 a year and am married, and am eligable, i could get $600 back, 5% of my income, if i was married and made $1,000,000 the maximum i could get back would still be $600 if i was eligable, just a little over .05%. Atleast that is what i am reading out of all this, maybe i'm just dyslexic :-)

I've heard so much third hand bullshit about this I could puke.

Instead, I've asked Mrs. Kol what she knows. I hope I get this right:

If you pay taxes, you'll get a refund.

If you're single with no dependants, you'll get a max of $300.

Single with dependants, max $500.

Married with dependants, max $600.

If you're a full-time student, you're not paying taxes to begin with so get back to studying and get a real job http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/wink.gif

9 states are taxing the refund 2 to 3%, hence the word "max".

She also points out that unmarried couples filing jointly have historically been taxed at a lesser rate than married couples filing jointly.

Also, the last two digits of your SSAN will determine your place in line for a refund; 00 first - 99 last.

Now, we need to decide what to do with that money. Most of us will pay bills. Some will save it. A large group will probably pump it back into the economic machine.

I'm not quite clear on the long-term implications but at least I'm not funding a $12,000 toilet seat.

What will you do with yours?

Before i drive you over to the IRS office to conduct our little audit....
I should point out that you paid 25% in INCOME tax
but the less than 75% that was left was taxed and additional 8-9% on everything you bought. Then Your bills were taxed. Phone, electric, car registration, inspection, even the FCC tax on your internet service (if I'm not mistaken that's worked into the price of most providers) If you have a cable modem you are DAMNED sure paying FCC tax on the line.
To be fair lets say you bought grocerys that weren't taxed and all the other shit evens out to 10% on the 75% that was left....

My math says thats a grand total of 33% Taxation.

You work 8 hours a day? The first 3 hours belong to the maintainance of this GLORIOUS REPLUBLIC.

there are two certainties in this life : death and taxes. They are mutually exclusive. If you don't like taxes that much, then die. If you don't lik death that much, then pay taxes............................

If they want to redistribute wealth...they should just go ahead and do it instead of wasting my money in bueracratic bullshit...

If the Federal Govt. had budgeted itslef properly to begin with, then the(I am assuming here) $150 it probably took to review, decide, process, deliver my pathetic $300 "return" wouldnt have been wasted and Id have $450...but no...they keep fucking blundering...I remain unsuprised and unaffected...
