View Full Version : killing the beaver

I was fishing the other day.
Got around to a part of the lake I have never fished before. I found a swans nest, more black berrys, a few frogs and a beaver lodge. Right up against the bank behind a small growth of new sweet gum trees. I waded through the chest high trees along the paths made by the beavers to the edge of the water and the back of the lodge. There I stood. I've seen all the trees they've gnawwed down. I've seen their dam. Their slides. Their footprints and tail marks. But I haven't actually seen one of these beavers yet. Then I heard them inside. Chomping on some sticks. Click, click, click. Chip[ping off pieces of wood to keep their teeth sharp and worn down. (If a beaver is unable to chew on wood it bottom teeth will grow up over its head and back down into its brain, no shit)
I'm looking at the pile of sticks.
I'm hearing its builders.
I'm thinking about all the signs I've seen.

And I'm fighting this overwhelming urge to break open the den and destroy the inhabitants.

I wanted to SEE them.
To prove they existed.

But I also wanted to kill them.

It passed.
I caught more fish.
Saw more wild creatures (which I had no desire to kill).
And had a nice morning.

Hhhmmm???

No no no Mac. Fur is most definately out this season. Tres tacky. Might I suggest you opt for one of those lovely gold lurex G-strings instead? http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

*theMAC returns, slightly burned, with part of a golf club shaft, blood on his mouth and wearing only beaver pelt.*
*he sits in the corner and breaks open a turtle shell with a rock, then beginsd to eat the raw insides*

this moment has been brought to you by the word "restraint" and the concept that we should "love our planet and all living creatures in it"

If you can't eat it
its just one more thing to kill

Yes.
But he would have asked the beavers to surrender and them lined them up at the edge of a ditch and shot them in the head one at a time while chanting "the power of christ compelles thee"

I'm okay. I didn't really devolve.
But it was an uncontrollable urge at first. Which made my mind start to tick in a new direction. And it really was indifference for a lesser creature that kept me from intruding somehow on their home.
Go figure.

The only problem I have with shooting beavers is that when you empty a 30 round clip there isn’t much left to eat or sell. But if you can find their teeth you cam make a little bracelet for your girlfriend
