religion is a wonderful thing. no matter what that religion is, no matter what your beliefs are, it is truly a wonderful thing. it gives you courage, strength, provides you with comfort, helps you cope with life's never-ending challenges.
here is what burns my ass and causes me to burst out laughing all at the same time.
every time you start to 'spread the gospel', mostly just merely bringing up the subject of religion, you open up a door full with a room full confrontation.
damn it can't you people see! every one of you is right!! don't believe me? ask any one of you. go to any person who's beliefs differ ever so slightly than yours and they're are right your wrong and vice versa. hey, fallow your religion the best way you know how and be happy with it. you shouldn't have to argue about it. hell none of you can win anyway!
Catholic, Jewish, Baptist, Pentecostal, etc.., holy wars in middle east(how long has been going on, what, like, forever.) and guess what every body has god on their side, EVERY BODY HAS GOD ON THEIR SIDE,
NO ONE CAN [size=6]WIN[/size NO ONE.
SO JUST GET OFF IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!

IMHO, religion is a crutch for those who need validation of their existence, or something to blame for misfortune, or a carrot at the end of the stick of life.
However, I respect everyone else's right to believe what they want to, and in that respect I agree with you.
However, the pack mentality that I spoke of in an earlier post precludes religions from peacefully coexisting, because people tend to flock behind religious credos, flags, or football teams, immediately lose all common sense, and proceed to attack anything that is not them.
This is not true for everybody, of course, and that is the only reason that I don't make my life's work the eradication of humankind.

Pft. I can quite happily worship myself without a crutch thankyou very much. Religion isn't limited to christianity peoples, broaden your minds a wee bit and actually re-think about exactly what Billyman is saying.
Nice post Billyman. What really rips my knickers is that most 'god(s)' uphold the idea of peace and love. Why the fuck is everybody fighting in the name of their 'god(s)' then???

Squee, my family is very religious(southern baptist) and i love them very much, i couldn't care less about what they believe in or not. i think it's great they find comfort in it.
as for catholics, man you guys are great, party all week if you want to, repent the weekend, start over again!(i know it's more complex) but you know what i'm saying.
be proud of what you are, but understand not every one feels the same even though it is frustrating to you.

I beg to differ. How can you compare christianity (for example) to hindu? How can you even compare the likeness of the two gods. Now, those of you that know me, know that I dont really believe in much of anything, but I am searching for the "truth" And YES, there has to be an absolute truth out there. Will I find out what that is? I hope so, but I doubt it. But I wont give up (maybe the searching is just as much fun as finding it..? who knows http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif). But, take those two religions for example. As different as night and day. I'll just use one example of many. Their view of women.
Now, some of you may have heard me say it before, but, I'm gonna say it again. Most "true, hardcore" hindu view women as equal to dogs. If a man cheats on his wife, no big deal...but, if a woman cheats on her husband....he can kill her and most people would think him right for it. Men can beat their wives, but women have to be the perfect example of humility. And what's worse? their "RELIGION" condones it. Christianity may say "women submit to your husbands" but the bible also says that women are supposed to be treated with respect, love, and treated in the most utmost way.
So dont tell me it is the same. There are various other quirks, many that are proven in the way that 99% of the country lives, that are just as ridiculous and hurtful for people....i.e. - cows are regarded as almost equal (if not equal) to gods. People STARVE while cows walk the streets. COWS are treated better than human fucking beings. Heaven forbid you run over a cow, if you are lucky enough to own a car, in india. You better high tail it the fuck out of there, cause you could be in some deep shit. And it isn't just hindu and christianity. Other religions, when compared, and looking at the "nature" of the god shown in them, is different as night and day. Anyone who says differently, hasn't looked deep enough, hasn't studied those religions enough. When I say this billyman, I mean no offense to you, please dont take it that way.
A religion is following a set of beliefs. some of those beliefs may be similar, but the majority aren't. Yes, many all believe in a "god" of some sort. But those "god's" differ in to many ways to say they are similar. So dont say that "everything is just the same thing, bundled differently" cause that is the biggest, most stupid load of bullshit that I know.
Now, am I going to force my beliefs on anyone? No. am I going to condem someone for believing something? That depends. If it cause's hurt to others, if it causes people to die. YES. Do you realize what you are saying?
If you are to hold with what you say, then you are saying that a god that condones KILLING people because they are of a different race or 'sexual orientation', or because they aren't white, is the same as the god that condones love, and say's "let EVERYONE come to me." And yes, Nazi's, skinheads, KKK, they all believe that their "god" condones that sort of thing. Hell, that is one of the MAIN reasons why they do what they do (except for some of those white trash, intolerant idiots...but even their beliefs come from an ingraining of intolerance from parents most of the time, and if you trace it back, it will lead right to religion.) You are saying "if they believe it, let them believe it..it is all the same." BULL SHIT.
I'm all for letting people believe what they want to believe. Good for them. I myself, will still search for that absolute truth that is out there, and I wont be satisfied believing something cause it makes me "feel good" or cause it allows me to do certain things, or because "I've always been raised like that." Dont sit and be complacent with what you are in. If you think you know the truth, then fucking follow it, but stick to it, and keep studying it, and digging into that. Keep digging, but as soon as you find evidence of contradictions, or lies, of someone trying to blind you, or hinder you, or if it doesn't follow one basic right: To treat others with respect, and to not harm the innocent, then fucking ditch it, and start searching again. FUCK COMPLACENCY.
"of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...no, wait, fuck that. I'm not wrong." http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had to sift around and distract myself before replying to this thread. Specifically, I'll stick to the original post as I would need an IV and someone to change my bedpan before I finished.
I'll make it short to save us all some time.
There is only ONE TRUTH.
Now, you can take that as a religious statement or as the conclusion derived by experimentation. It doesn't matter. That statement is absolute.
For the history of our species, we've been contemplating that unavoidable 'obstacle' through guesswork and faerytales.
"Hmm. Fire. Comes from sky. Someone up there."
It wasn't that much later until we determined:
"Hmm. Atom. Makes big fire. We are gods."
We're still infants. No matter how much we slap each other around to try and convince, we're just a bunch of kids in one little sandbox trying to understand why the stars are in the sky.
We're getting there. Regardless of the issues that go on between political or religious factions, the TRUTH is being sought. I can tell you this much. No person alive today knows or ever will know the TRUTH. You may as well try to explain geography to an ant.
We learn from our ancestors and teach our offspring what they cannot learn for themselves.
Keep doing that!!!
No matter how enthusiastic you are about your religion or political point of view, you're stuck here on this ball with the rest of us. Kill it all and the Universe won't even fart when we're digested.

Rage, i wasn't comparing religions, most are incomparable.
however, i do see what your saying about Hinduism, and i can name a few other really fucked religions and religious groups.
i guess i was mainly targeting the most common groups of the US. hell, i think all religions are little screwy. it's all about interpretations. for the most part i do agree with you and thanks for the feedback.
truth, know one will ever know, i can promise you that. truth to one is a lie to another. this is part of the reason i think god, gods, goddesses, and religion was started anyway. people have questions they want to know the truth, so they look for it.
they find something believable and adopt that theory(that's all it is'theory'.) and in that theory they have more questions, most have no known answers so this where this faith shit come in.
there again if it helps, go with it, it's your life, live it the way you want. just be sensible, if the bible, or book of morman, or book of witchcraft is sensible to you, have at it!!

Look up Teilherd de Chardin, a Jesuit monk...he had this idea that as humankind developed and learned things, we would eventually evolve towards the godhead. I agree.
I also agree with the Jesuits, who, like most hardcore Catholics, didn't hold it against everyone else that they were not Catholic (it's too bad they've turned against Rome).
