KNOW YOUR ROLE in the Information Age

This just occurred to me...

There are basically only four positions of any importance in a dataflow economy--that is, one that is chiefly concerned with information.
1. People who collect information.
2. People who sort, collate, organize, and route that information.
3. People who look at the information and make decisions.
4. People who carry out those decisions.

For those of you in position #2--Welcome to the IT Industry. Enjoy your living Hell.

Is anyone else fascinated by the other three positions? Anyone have any experience in them? Where do you want to be?

5. Someone who inserts false information into the system to fuck things up for 1, 2, 3 and 4. Or possibly to amuse them.

6. Keep the real infrastructure running while all these kids play on their computers. Charge them ungodly amounts for basic maintenance and upkeep on the world they've left behind. Make them realize that all of the HTML in the world can't make their sink stop leaking.

My dad said that to me. And it's true. With everyone and their aunt and uncle getting a job in computers, who's left to go to when your sink is leaking or you need a house built? Makes you wonder where we're headed...
