Some of you don't like rap.
If so leave this topic be.
<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">
I'm a 28 year old white guy from TX
But I like alot of rap
I DONT like a lot of what is now hip-hop.
But growing up I notice that so many things are SOLD to us as POPULAR that when you find something you like that is popular at the time you should check out why you like it.
I like Dr Dre.
His production is instantaniously recognizable.
He has rythmn, melody, and continuity just like every other form of music I like.
His lyrics flow.
I've read about him in magazines and seen interviews/documentaries on TV. When I take that crap and compare it to what I've read and seen about others pop stars/rappers/hiphop artists, certain things stand out.
He smokes dope (no lie) but I've never seen or heard him address anyother form of drugs in a positive way.
I don't recall any of his videos having the same sexual/pornographic intesity of most current videos. (this may be splitting hairs)
Infact I saw an add for a CD the other day that never actually showed a whole girl. It was just butts. Personally, I like more than just butts.
I've never heard of him shotting or stabbing anyone. In fact he did the opposite to get out of deathrow records. He gave them what they wanted and went on to do his own thing with a clear conscience.
He really is from compton.
He really did start out as a DJ spinning P-Funk records.
He really was part of the original gangstas.....NWA
And they really did try to forget about Dre.
I hope he makes a fortune off idiots like Eminem.
I hope he keeps looking for truely new shit like snoop dogg.
I hope some one playing his records 10 years from now comes up with the new thing.

I didn't know I liked rap until I found out that I've been listening to it for years.
For instance:
I was blue and lonely.
I couldn't sleep a wink
And I could only get unconscious when I had too much to drink.
There was something, somehow wrong somewhere and each day was cold and dead.
The seeds of desperation were growing in my head.
I needed inspiration; a brand new start in life.
Somewhere to place affection but I didn't want a wife.
And then, by lucky chance, I saw in a special magazine
An ad that was unusual; the like I've never seen.
Experience something different with this new, imported toy!
She's loving, warm, inflatable and a guarantee of joy!
She came all wrapped in cardboard; all pink and shrivelled down.
A breath of air was all she needed to make her lose that frown.
Whoah!
Sorry about that http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/wink.gif

I listen to some rap. I liked Notorious BIG and I still like Dr Dre. NOt much of the new stuff is appealing to me. It's most just "look at my phat ride yo, check out my bitches yo..yo...bitch...nigga" kind of repetitive. Some old Tupac is ok too.

Dre does some great stuff, I rather enjoy it. If you would like some old school that has quality to it, check out KRS-One, there is none higher in my book.

Is that all?
Funny you should mention KRS-One
He (his DJ was dead at the time) made the top 25 Influential Hip-Hop video show that was on MTV last night.
They stuck Snoop dog, Ice Cube, MC Hammer, LimpBizcut, Cypruss hill, etc etc at one table and made them decide what 25 videos influenced them the most.
That was (quite by accident) a good show.
Ice Cube is another one I really like.
Musical quality and theme all in one package.
In fact Predator is the best Rap album I've ever heard.
Ice-T is the master lauret though.
He's the poet.
Rw and I went to the mall once and said
"What do I have to show you my ID to buy?"
We went home with Cop Killer.
Preban.
Precensored.
Preedited.
That album fuckin rocks.
Don't like it?
Don't listen.
I'll turn up the Hank Williams so as not to offend the C&W fans with my lyrical concepts.
BTW.
Listen to what ZZ-top sings about.
Listen to what Lynard Skynard sings about.
Then listen to Rap....
Oh my GAWD
Same topics.
BLUES based
Everybody's got the blues.
They just don't know it.

For those that are interested KRS-One has released a new album. Sneak Attack, is in a word incredible. This is the culmination of 20 years of hip-hop. If you like hip-hop/rap get this album. The Teacher has out done himself once again.

Krs-one, he's the dude that did a cameo for KLF? or nor. I am definately gonna check out that CD, I need some new stuff to drive to.
This thread got me searching round my tape collection again looking for Snoop's 'Dogpound' or whatever the one with 'Gin and Juice' on it was. That was a cool tape.
(Tape = cassette tape, looks like a dat tape but larger, they were popular last century}

A little ballad by megadeth that could very easily change tempo and be rapped.

I have a huge amount of respect for Dre. He has done things that other rappers/producers have only dreamed about. I don't always agree with his lyrics in some of his songs but he knows how to lay down some funky ass tracks. His last cd "dr dre. 2001" sold on an international level.. Even that 15 year old kid from the suburbs is sitting in his bedroom bobbing his head to "G-thang."
