So this weekend I will be in Texas to Visit Jared. Got a deal on airfare that lets me fly from Portland to Bush. My problem? I need to get to San Antonio. So I looked at Hopper Flights. $75 each way. Crud.

Inspiration! A car! A rental car! I could pick myself up from the airport! Jared wouldn't need to take time off from work, (no missed time =more $$). And then I read the fine print. If you are under 25 they charge you an extra $25 per day. Which I could maybe understand, If I chose to drive with my toes on the wheel.

:(

That's the same as a plane ticket!

Anyone got any good, cheap Ideas?

:dunno:

Sounds too coincidental for the current Hat Holders to ignore.

That age thing is horrible. When I flew down to Phoenix this summer for a wedding I was taken aback by what I considered to be gross age discrimination. My money and insurance is as good, if not better than, a lot of people older than I. Sure, I ended up finding a nice stretch limo for about 50 bucks and rode that in style to the pimp hotel. But still...$25 extra per day is just outrageous.

If I was a sue-happy 'merican, I would find me a money hungry lawyer to fight this one.

Yea...me vs. the world.

Or not. I've been up for about 36 hours...so my synapses are not quite right.

You really ought to give more notice if you are gonna need help of this sort. What day and time do you arrive in Houston? And why fly to Houston? Southwest has lots of flights that go through San Antonio, I'm sure. In any case, all I can suggest is the bus, which truly, truly sucks. San Antonio is only a 3 hour drive at the speed limit from Bush Intercontinental if he use the Beltway to come around the city from I-10. If he goes into Loop 610 to go around to I-45 N, then Beltway 8 east to the airport add 45 minutes or longer, depending on the time of day.

Frankly, there are no longer any tribals in the Houston area. It is a 4 hour drive away for the closest of them - about 4.5 hours from here. Not sure there is much anyone can do.

I used Luke for the tickets. I thought I was getting a great Buddy pass deal at 50 a pop. (Mike gave his passes to Amanda) But it turns out that for two tickets, one from PDX--> IAH, and one from IAH --> PDX it's $200 (Taxes and fees). If I want to fly from IAH to SAT, it's going to be another 200. SW does not fly from IAH. But Paul will pick me up at IAH and drop me off at Hobby on Friday after we have lunch, so I can get a cheaper flight. The hopper flights are all about 95 dollars after taxes, and that is just for one way. I'd rather have a car all weekend than spend the same dough for a flight. It would, even witth the added fee, be less than the flight. I was just wondering if anyone had any discounts other than AAA?

I've talked to Budget, and they don't have any discounts for my company, nor can my buddies over there get me any deals. (What's the use of having a business relationship with over 300 vendors if the relationship gets you jack?) So if anyone has any bright ideas, let me know. Thanks.

Be grateful that you can actually rent a car. Still trying to figure out how I'll get from the airport in El Paso to my destination 30+ min away. Can't take a bus. I'm sure I'll get somebody to pick me up, but it's shitty not having a backup if I need it.

Why are we all in Texas again? There are enough of us in that state for a BBQ. I demand southern BBQ!!!!

As for this whole mess--> Screw it. I'm just gonna fly.

Why am I just now realizing that there's a relationship between sphincters and rings?
