In a UBB social standing, age, wealth, physical strength etc... are all removed. The anonymity allows us to open up and the absence of normal social pressures allows thoughts to flow freely.
The reason these message boards are so addictive is they fill a need that is seldom filled in normal human interaction. We tend to hide our true feelings and tailor our speech to the person in front of us. Here we simply tailor our speech to the general tone of the community.
This is a university of common sense. We are studying the things that will effect our lives and are skipping the theory and social studies. Every once in a while someone tosses in a word problem.
The test at the end of the semester will be whether you used this information to improve your personal life and used it to make informed decisions.
We give each other things of value but no money changes hands. The acid test for a message board's worth is ....are you a better person for having visited? This place gets an A+ from me.

Woof.
If it's so sick, why are you laughing?

I wondered.
What's my angle.

If I had 3 people I could sit and talk to for 1 hour every day and discuss half the shit we hit on here I'd be IRL instead of UBB.

If I was an Einstein I'd be in a lab day and night solving the universe on a envelope.
But I can't think ahead to the end of this sentence. Somehow I make it there but its not conscious.

If I was a truely politcally minded person I'd be cruising the news and siting case law to point out my social and political arguments.

If I was purely artistict I'd sit up at night "creating" drawings and poems and storys to post.

I stink at games, so no Quake for me.
I rarely have time for IRC.

I see alot of stuff here I just stay out of.
I try, pretty much, to stick to what I like.
I get a lot of satisfaction that way.

I've got my angle all worked out.
Where I fit.

So if you feel like you don't fit or you're not contributing...

find your angle.

No one here is redundant.
No one here is out of their class.
We are a set of minds not a mind set.

IRL we'd be shooting pool, drinking beer and bourbon and watching our children beat the fuck out of each other, having a laugh.

UBB we speak our mind without consequence, we learn, I think in equal amounts about ourselves as about others, having a laugh.

My point? (if i ever have one)

UBB is an additive, not a replacement top real life.

Luisteren jochies.
