I think you should call it Kevin.

To be honest I don't think anyone really gives a shit about the name. Neither do I.

Aside from:
"Dad, where'd you post those pictures of me when I was 8?"

Personally I'd just like to mention that I am thoroughly appalled at the complete lack of porn.

I came up with "Visions." It's simple, yet can mean most anything.

How about "HyperVision"?

"Skeet's Backyard"?

"Hey! Where'd you post that pic of a diseased penis?"
"Oh that. I shoved it in Skeet's Backyard."

Sometimes I long for the days before parenthood...

Barathrum was once The Colosseum. The purpose changed from "come in and have a flame war" to "if you're gonna fight, take it up in the sewer/Hell".

D&D's contents haven't reflected its title for quite some time now.

I'm only strongly suggesting a name change, not a new set of rules about what can and cannot be posted. When Jess and Billy had to post pics of Maddy in the "porn" section, it didn't strike me as being a bit "off" until I followed suit with pics of my own kid and was asked where to find them.

Maybe (this is up to you to decide) we can add another forum entitled "Decadence and Degradation" that hosts pics not meant for young eyes.

It could be a sub-forum of this one if you like. Kinda like the adult video section in the back, if you will.

If making changes that are long overdue is waffling, bring on the syrup. ;)

I encourage the Newbs to participate in making decisions. After all, I don't "own" the place as many would like to believe. No one person does. I'm just the guy with the CP access and a big "mouth".

You make the decisions. I'll try to make it happen.

Good call imho Kol, the internet is overflowing with pron, why have it here just because one can?

..........with the over 18+ subforum being a nice touch of course, we wouldn't to be considered prudes.

I agree Skeet. I'd much rather come on here and see pictures of my tht friend's and their families rather then a bunch of porn that I can see on any website.

then explain how anyone can not lie about being 18 to get in

then explain why 1 porn post warrants it's own subforum

I'm sure uber already asked that tho, so please disregard my comment.

Ironically I would be far more willing to post pics of those dear to me in a password protected subforum.

Always felt uneasy about photo's posted on the web being two clicks away from ending up on a total stranger's hard drive.

Lots of explaining to do... I'll do my best.

Should be fairly simple and clear. I'd hoped that the forum descriptions would do it. Guess not. I'll add "Must be older than 18 to enter" to D&D's description. Let me know if you think that'll do.

then explain how anyone can not lie about being 18 to get in
Same as before but this time they can't simply claim to have not read the sticky. If they don't understand what "iamolderthan18" means, maybe it should be changed to "I hereby declare, under forfeiture of posting rights, that I am at least eighteen years of age".

Nah...

then explain why 1 porn post warrants it's own subforum
Why carry road flares or a fire extinguisher in your truck? If anyone gets an overwhelming urge to post something that probably shouldn't be seen by young eyes, there's a place for it. The diseased penis pic was meant to be an example of what doesn't get posted in the main forum (this one).

I'm sure uber already asked that tho, so please disregard my comment.
Uber stopped playing with us quite a while back.

Addendum: Updated D&D's description and changed it's permissions so that members must sign on before viewing. If that's not enough I suppose the only thing left is to start using COPPA. No thanks.

Ever take your family out in public? It's probably already been done.

I suppose we could change the forum permissions for Hypervisions itself so that only members can view the forum but I'm not about to do that without a lot of approval from the membership. It's an option.

My vote goes for - HELL, NO!

This place is dieing on the vine as it is. Restrictive policies, mother-henism, etc will only kill it quicker. Pardon me if I am presumptuous - is Mac no longer an admin here? If he is, why was he seemingly unaware of the changes in the forums structure until after the fact?

Remember:

I'll summarize.

The changes are by no means permanent. It's easier to see what I'm trying to explain if I simply put it in place instead of forcing you to read through more posts than you would like. I'm still not sure if I like my own idea. I have to see it first-hand instead of just thinking about it. So far, I think I did ok but if participants begin dropping like flies because I've scrawled over something written in stone, I probably should be the next fly to drop.

Mac chose not to be an admin. I'm not sorry that it wasn't spectacular entertainment for the masses. There was no need for it to be. He'd simply had enough of the bullshit and chose to be a regular member. I admire that. Now he can concentrate on more important things than the operation of a message board.

I promise this:

My intention is to help, not hurt. If my actions are not to your liking, please let me know.

This forum can easily be changed to the way it once was.

Addendum: I also vote HELL, NO! on the issue of changing forum permissions on "Hypervisions" (if it's still ok to call it that).
I'm thankful for having the ability to express my ideas in a semi-tangible manner.

no offense, brother kol, but I vote for "you've found a great answer to a problem we don't have"

it's nice to know the features work but there's not any real need is there?

Koliedrus
05-09-2005, 06:05 PM
It became a problem for me once I realized that pictures of children had to be posted in the "porn" section. And, as you pointed out, we have little or no porn in the "porn" section so why call it what it isn't? To be honest with you, my wife was insulted when I told her where to find them.

Plus, it wouldn't be right to eliminate the option of posting porn and I sure as hell don't like the way threads were once policed for offensive content. Neither did I enjoy the thought of feds knocking on my door for providing "porn" to minors. All we had was a "give us your word" sticky that was quickly forgotten.

Welp, now we can post happy little pictures of our families and animals without the shame associated by the name of its location and folks are free to post whatever floats their boats as long as it's where it belongs.

It was a problem for me. A BIG one. I was doing my best to find a happy medium and not have to delete pictures of my kids. I want to share pictures of my family but posting them in a forum entitled "Decadence and Degradation" is simply out of the question.

No offense taken, Mac. There was a problem and it was mine. I tried to fix it without causing one here but it looks like I failed.

In Kol’s defense, I’ll say that I never really thought about it exactly until it was brought up. But since it had, it gave me a chance to analyze something. Pics and vids of my family do not fit under descriptive words such as “Decadence” or “Degradation”. Think about it for crying out loud.

I think Kol did an excellent job for the most part. The only thing I’m not down with at this point is the password thing. At first I was like “ok” but I wasn’t affected by the password therefore I didn’t experience the inconvenience. And that’s what it has already proven to be…….a total inconvenience to regular members. A disclaimer and nothing else would suffice.

In all the boards I frequent and/or have seen, there is simply a disclaimer AND the 18 or older forums, more often than not, are simply turned off from public view (must be a registered member to view).

Would this be more fitting to you all as regular members?

Koliedrus

Once you enter the password, it's cookied and you don't have to bother with it again.

I am in total agreement with the name change.
Hell, I like aesthetic changes especially descriptive ones.

I just think that subforuming the one "dirty picture" thread which had other wise slipped several pages deep into the archives (and I've had to dig out to prove to ppl that it wasn't deleted by nazi admins) runs contrary to how most of us post here.
Unless you intend to incourage this type of posting or want to argue about it, I say it's better to leave it buried by months of regulars not giving a shit about it.

as for pics of our familys and animals, It's my considered opinion that there hasn't been nearly enough of that lately and now that it's fired up I'm wondering what the rest of skalie's kids look like and when their first punk album comes out in the US.

AHA! Now we're getting somewhere.

See, if I hadn't added the subforum, imagine the accusations that would have flown from THAT!

Is Heather's thread full of genitals still around? I know I didn't touch it.

I don't encourage posting porn but neither do I want to be accused of ripping up the First Ammendment or being a "fuck you", power hungry dictator. I'm just the janitor.

I try to see all sides of the fences….toss all of it on the scales to see how and if it’ll balance. I swear to you, the only thing that has taken place here was a change and one for the better.

Good gawd people, quit your damn whining.

having viewed the other forum, i gotta say i think this will also be helpful for those cruising to the tribe at work (as i used to 3 or 4 times a day.) remember the picture somebody posted a while back of a naked guy bouncing his stuff up and down? that would have been rather embarrasing had anybody been looking over my shoulder at just the wrong moment.
now we just know where to send it, and those at work know where not to go.
