Recipients:

1. Sign with the included marker and take a pic of yourself wearing it. How you deliver the pic is up to you.

2. Work out shipping details with the next recipient as you see fit. Don't publish addresses here.

3. Include whatever you wish for the next recipient to keep for themselves.

4. You pay for shipping to whomever is next.

5. You choose who is next.

6. If you see a nickname posted here, add it to the written list that comes with the package.

7. Cross off whomever sent it to you.

Keep in mind that Teh Hat hat will crisscross the globe just as the virtual one has done so many times. It's patterned on "the real thing" so treat it with respect when you receive it.

It also has a final destination.

Some things that we experience become dim memories when they're recalled only as "someone else's experience". Teh Hat is a gift from Cruise that touches generations by reaching both backward and forward in time. For years it's been an intangible (yet understandable) concept.

You wear the hat, you tell a story.

Several people from all corners of the planet have "worn" it and it's magic has yet to fail.

It's certainly a psychological phenomenon. That's never been disputed. The original Hat was passed from one storyteller to the next and invoked tales that wouldn't ordinarily have been told without it.

For us on the 'net, it has always been "in our mind".

Keep your eyes open. It just might wind up on you head.

I only use those fake teeth for special occasions. Like, when my sis-in-law gathers a bunch of people together for a group picture during a holiday. She's always too busy organizing the shot to notice when I pop in one set or another.

I know of at least two pics where she's retaliated by glueing David Hasselhoff's mug on mine.

It gave me more satisfaction back when pictures had to be processed.

The wait, the realization, the gasp, the laugh, the comeback. It's not out of the question to predict being patted-down for dental appliances at some point in the future.

If that ever happens, a temp-tatt of a third eye will rest comfortably under a hat just before the pic is taken. Shhhhhhhh.......

I'll ship it off no later than Monday, the 9th. From there, it goes where it goes.

Muffy gets it first because she's the most distant, trustworthy person I can think of. Shipping it that distance has taught me how to choose a currier based on time vs cost. For example, FedEx would ship it for around $80US, UPS for around US$118 (those are the LEAST expensive prices) and USPS's MOST expensive price is around $20US (should get it there within a week).

I've still got papers to fill out and notes to include before I ship it so be patient with me. I don't want to fuck this up right off the bat.

Meanwhile, if you're interested, just speak up. If you post something here while it's in transit, the current recipient will check this thread and add you to the list that comes with it.

To whom you send stuff and how you treat what you get is entirely up to you. I've written some sloppy but heartfelt pages in Teh Book that I've asked to remain for the duration. I've included two markers with which to sign Teh Hat just in case one or the other dries up.

There are many blank pages in Teh Book. They're easily torn out if you want to write a personal note to someone. I'd rather learn that most pages remain once they reach their destination but again, it's literally out of my hands.

Pictures and ETA's from the participants are strongly encouraged. Perhaps you'll even have a story to tell once you get it.

The list has nothing to do with the order of reception. Randomize it however you see fit. Use your "trust", "faith", "instinct", "knowledge" and "wisdom" to help you either pass it along or let it pass you by.

You can pull out whenever you like. If you don't want to participate, no one who DOES want to see it reach its destination wants it to be viewed as another task to perform.

I can only speak for myself.

Cruise's grandfather launched it. His grandson helped it along by sharing it with us.

It'll be slow going from one head to another. Much slower than we're used to but when all's said and done, I expect that many "strangers" around the world will have grown closer and perhaps even have enough time to plan a gathering of sorts to see it where it belongs.

I think it's a bit too red in the top pic, but about right in the wookie pic (for the light). It's more of a reddy brown than a browny red and indoors its darker, outdoors all the orangey bits come out.

Dammit! That would have been great. Not sure when it'll arrive or what Jules has planned for it but getting it there that soon would probably cost a bundle.

The time involved with the thing has depended primarily on individual schedules and motivation. I like the new element that's been added; trotting the globe with hat on head.

So, in a perfect world, the hat arrives at Juliana's right now and she makes it a top priority. She gets pics made in all the places she has planned, works out shipping details with Asmo, determines cost, requests and receives monetary assistance from us if required and fires it off.

Asmo gets it in time, takes it to Peru and does likewise until it's Simon-Time and off to India.

Can it be done? I don't know but it'll be interesting to find out. Historical, even.

I did just that.

The Hat stowed away in my pack for three days of backpacking in the White Mountains with two of the few people I've truly considered friends over the past six years. Night One was spent with my little sister's summer camp, run by one of the two individuals responsible for getting me into hiking & climbing in the first place. I am moving far away in three weeks and it could be years before I see these people again.

Hoo boy. My silent mantra was "What the hell was I thinking?" Exasperation was the prevalent feeling, and sadly, most of the pain wasn't physical. I guess I can save those stories for another time.

Sarah has all photos from the trailhead up, but here's what I have: "The" picture, one of the two boys in my life, and me knowing a little less than I do today.

This little beauty was about 20' off the trail, day 2; to my friends' horror, I promptly got naked and jumped into the FUCKING FREEZING water. The pool is larger and deeper than foreshortening would allow you to believe; also far more refreshing. I pumped water for at least half an hour and filled everyone's bottles up.
