Nice pad.

Wasn't it you some years ago that posted about how stupid it was to rent or lease vs. buying and waste of money stuff?????

Probably. And I still feel the same way.

I just can't afford to purchase. Sick expensive around here.

edit: I take that back. I could afford something...just not something I wanted. 1 bedroom condo in the nasty areas. Those are hardly investments worth making.

My parents bought a new cottage/land across the lake from the old/current one. 2.5 acres. The garden might be there.

My dad asked if I wanted to create one at their house this year. I'll probably do that.

I'm going to try out the potted veggie thing. Hanging cucumber and mater plants, peppers on the ground. Maybe some herbs.

I know you weren't slammin...I was just ownin' up to what I probably said.

I figured you'd be the pink canopy bed type.

No offense, but it looks like Evel Knievel (sp?) attacked the place with an architectural fucking lawnmower and put in shitty locks. :p

I'd make it a little more home-looking to compensate - kinda bare and ugly.

Working on it.

I'm mpt trying to spend tons of money at once....credit card debt is not good. I just got out of it, and I'm not diving back in.

Congrats on the new home. I dont' blame you for not wanting to go overboard with the spending right now. Take your time and buy one thing at a time for it. Eventually you will have it the way you want it.

Well, it doesn't really take much - you'd need lockpickers to worry about the door-gear, and otherwise, it just looks utilitarian to me. Everything where you want it, little too much junk around...get yourself a good system and stick to it, and learn how to cook really well, even if it's just for yourself.

I would ask the apartment manager who, exactly, they're trying to stop with locks like those - they either have steel door frames for those locks to intersect with, or they just don't care...it wouldn't take much to break in, I don't think; you'd just need some balls.

I'd bitch about it - it's all well and good until the impossible happens. I make a good jerk, though. :)

Looks like you're doing well with living alone, exploring life, and being a person - and you've some fucking luck I desperately want with finding jobs; maybe college ain't so bad after all.

Anyway, you've got my respect, hang in there and keep on going...best advice I can give for ya.

Thanks for the pics and perspective, Pmahnn.

I already know how to cook well. :-) It comes in handy with impressin' the ladies.

Welcome to security around Chicago's suburbs. These are the types of locks I grew up on. If someone wants in, they'll get in. I'm insured, so while it would momentarily suck, it would be taken care of in time.

While college helps, location seems to be a more important factor. The economy in and around Chicago is quite healthy. Lots of jobs for lots of people, even those with no degrees.

Precisely. :D More power to ya.

Try and avoid the suck part. Helps a lot more than replacing shit you've grown attached to. Shit like that just leaves me groaning and being incredulous, moreso for someone in your case - don't mind me.

Lucky bastard. Not so good here, but this always has been a semi-depressed area financially.
