View Full Version : Glock or Sig?

Yes, it's that time again.
I love Glocks. I've put about 5,000 rounds through a G23 and it never jammed. You can bury them in dirt, mud, semen, shit, sand, and they will still fire. You can run over them with mudflaps chins and they will be fine. Easy to maintain, easier to shoot.
But they feel like a brick in my hand.
Sig 229 in .40.... I haven't gotten to shoot one yet. I hear they are a bitch to maintain, always having to grease them and break them down for cleaning... but holy shit. It fits my hand like a glove.
Why don't I rent one? Simple, my hand is broken way too often, well, my fingers really, to be able to get a good feel for a gun anymore. It's also not to good for the healing process. I have a nice hookup at a gun shop right now and I want to use that hookup to get a pistol before I piss said hookup off, like I am prone to do with Bush supporters upon our first lengthy conversation.
Alright assholes, opinions. Now. G23 or Sig229?

Get the Sig. It’s nearly impossible to go wrong with a Sig.
Oh, and learn to be more ambidextrous. Learn to shoot with your other hand. It’ll come in handy when you least expect it one day.

What's your reasoning on going with the Sig? People I trust, and people who I trust that trust their lives to their weapon every single day, say the same things about glocks. I want reasons, people!
And I shoot 2 shots with my off-hand for every 1 shot with my primary, have been for years. :D

Being that you are a filthy commie, I say just keep a little bit of sand in a bag, and throw it and yell "pixie dust" really loud.

God damnit. I should have known better.

What is the difference between the two?
I was thinking of going to a firing range and finally learn to fire a gun.
What's it like?

When you go to the range, ask them for a squib load first, then try out some full power ones.
I am no sig expert but the cops I know who carry sigs all say that they bought the very best for when it counts. However, the cops I know carry glocks at least 2:1 to sigs. why? primarily cost. The sigs I've seen all cost more!
If money's not an issue and you could buy a $600+ pistol verses a <$500 pistol then I'd say go with whatever feels better when you pick it up and pull the trigger because that is what will justify the expense to you.
I will also add that I've seen alot of nice "barely used" glocks in pawn shops and gun stores that could be had for under 4 bills. I've yet to see a sig sitting there at a price that made me look at it twice.
That being said I also don't like the sig's trigger pull but I haven't shot enough of them to get used to it probably.
on to the facts:
p229 (http://www.sigarms.com/products/classiccompactsize-models.asp?product_id=39)
g23 (http://www.glock.com/g23.htm)
The P229 says it's a compact gun yet it's taller and heavier than the glock. It doesn't say if it's double action or not but I have grown really fond of the DAO of the glock.
so, if you ask me I'd say go glock shopping and spend the difference on ammo.
but it truely does come down to which one actually feels better to you.
Besides, you can always buy the other one next year....

Because my hand is currently fucked up. If I wait to buy, odds are the pwnz0r deal will be no longer available.
All this was covered in my post =P

ppl with fucked up hands should buy shot guns not pistols

I have done the same with a re-worked Spring Field Armory 1911. And your point?

Have you tried any of this? Just curious 'cuz I've a dumbass buddy who tried this shit with beach sand and the homey locked up tight.............and how hard is it to pull the trigger?........to the "eaiser to shoot" comment.
But they feel like a brick in my hand.
Must be Mudflaps semen.

Oh darn, a gun that you have to keep lubricated like an engine. Hmm, well lubricated engines works pretty good and because they aren't relying on self lubricating composite matierials such as Delrin, they may last a while longer.
Get the Sig.

Or, a rockin custom 1911.
I didnt really want to make a suggestion on this, as they are both such generic pistols, that I really have no opinion. Both are reliable, both wear well, and both are about as exiting as a chevy cavalier.
Now a 1911 like mine, peened and squeezed rails, polished feed ramp, chamfered throat, tweaked trigger, rosewood and decelerator rubber grips, match fitted barrel, welded and redrilled link bushings, tuned extractor and ejector, extended mag release.
All home done. All by me. And when your 8 shots run out, you can beat the crap out of them with it. If you have to pull a gun on a fellow, make sure he knows you are one bad motherfucker with a bad motherfucker's pistol. Not some punkass with 500 bucks.
I was at a range some years ago, an indoor range. We were shooting glocks, USP's, kel-teks and whatever. An old dude was looking over at us once in a while. I took out my 1911, and he said "Now son, thats a christian weapon."
Go get yourself a "christian weapon". And keep it about forever.

My point being, I have first hand experience and trust in a glock, but I do not with a sig. Which is why I am asking everyones opinion. I thought that was obvious, but I've gone ahead and pointed it out for you.

Eh. I've never been a big fan of the 1911. I love the way they feel when I shoot them, but I have never felt comfy carrying one. Keep in mind I am 3 feet tall and > a buck fifty.

No, but I have many good friends in the Kentucky State Police who are issued Glocks, and they tried out all sorts of crazy shit with them. One of them is now a certified Glock armorer he got so into them.

See, my point, as much as we love our skeeter type fellow, is that each year, you ask which gun you should buy, then you buy something different, then you sell it before the year is up. So, this is just an excellent excuse to have a gun thread.
Buy the one you like. It doesnt matter what any of us say, you're the only one that knows what you like. The two you chose will serve you well.

Oh, and you dont have to be lurving all over a sig with the cleaning gear every day, nor the glock. Those that insist a sig has to be cleaned every outing just like cleaning sigs. Just wipe it down with a silicone rag after you pull it out from your sweaty little holster. Body salts will kick it's ass eventually if you dont. Thats one point for the glock. The tenifer coating resists body salt and oil pretty well. A slicked with silicone sig will do the same. I have carried blued 1911's for years, winter and summer, and a little wipe down keeps them shiny and happy. Should be the same for a sig. Blued steel is blued steel.

I still have the Taurus 617 =P
I don't think I will ever sell that gun. As a matter of fact, I haven't SOLD a single gun I asked about here.

Skeet, I was doing a piss poor job at being a comical smartass. That’ll teach me to stay up past my bed time, heh. Don’t take anything I said to heart my man.
For what it’s worth, I love Glocks. I even have a 24C. It’s a sweet shooting gun but it’s just fugly. Ya know what I mean? I like ‘em perty and although all the others I have are anywhere from gloss black to satin black, they’re still nice looking guns (I do have one nickel Ruger .44 mag and one stainless .22). The newer Sig’s aren’t even “perty” to me BUT, I have yet to hear a complaint out of any individual that either owned, rented or borrowed one. From the one’s I have shot, the action was smooth, the trigger travel seemed just enough for you expect it to fire when you wanted it to fire (no surprises) and no “getting use to it”.
You know the finish that that the Sig’s usually carry….that satin stainless look? I know a guy that can put that finish on most all steel guns. Imma have him do my 1911 and possibly by H&R .22 9 shot revolver.
Check out also Para Ordnance as a possible gun selection.

Hey, well smack my ass and call me granny then. :)
I say you get a Barrett 50, and send it down to me for safekeeping then. I'll look after it real good.

What with my new job and selling all my shit to move to Alaska (except my guns and my dog, those go along) I may be buying a bunch more guns within the next few months. While a .50 is slightly out of the picture, a .308 isn't.
Remmington 700, anyone?
