"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." (http://www.mecca.org/~crights/dream.html)
"You can be out of slavery and out of segregation and have the right to vote and starve to death without access to capital and industry," Jackson said. (http://www.thenewstribune.com/24hour/front/story/2022705p-10054389c.html)
go knock up another one of your female employees, reverend, maybe you can teach THAT kid how to find capital and industry.

Heh...you couldn't more wrong.
If no one took him seriously we wouldn't hear from him. Go hang out with the ignorant poor black folk in Chicago...they'll tell you all about the Rev. and his plans for equality.
hey, even on the issues which I AGREE with jesse on...I have to disagree with him
like the lotto and it's part in our economy (http://www.issues2002.org/Celeb/Rev__Jesse_Jackson_Budget_+_Economy.htm)
"African American consumers currently wield $500 billion in buying power. Hispanics have $350 billion. They purchase a disproportionate share of items like soft drinks, fast food, and athletic shoes. Thus they should become shareholders of the companies they patronize-such as Nike, Coca Cola, and McDonald’s-and exert pressure as shareholders to change the current state of affairs."
so....you want to associate the mass purchase of these products with some sort of genetic demographic? and you assume that people who buy the most of a certain type of product want to control it and CHANGE it?
No. It sure sounds like what he's saying is that only BLACK people should sell to BLACK people. I mean he CAN'T mean POOR people selling to POOR people......only a fucking fascist/socialist bastard would think for an instant that we could all have equal income when one of us sells to millions of the rest of us who work to purchase these products.
"We are in a hole. The first thing we must do is stop digging. The next generation must figure out a way to climb out. If you were going down a road at night and it was dark, and the longer you drove the darker it got, it would not take a rocket scientist to figure out what to do. Put on your brakes and back out the same way you went in."
I think dubya is one of the worst public speakers ever...but this one paragraph tops my all0time personal best list of illogical, incongruant, poorly constructed allegories.
so if you are driving and night falls on you......just back up and it's day again?
I think the guys at JPL should hear about this!
It could revolutionize the transfer of matter and energy across space!!!!!!!!11!!
(and they ARE rocket scientists)
I hate to seem hateful but this is why the word "nigger" hasn't died yet
well, this and rap music
"who said pretty boys can't be wild niggas?" - nelly

what dubya is trying to prove is that if you just keep backing up long enough, while telling everyone you're backing up into the daylight, eventually it will be day again.
somewhere, anyway.

That doesn't matter. There's enough poor black folk out there taking everything Jackson says very seriously.
He may not be a threat, but he creates false hopes, ideas, and scapegoats in the minds of the "downtrodden." He is a big problem.

Maybe there are fewer and fewer street lights along the road you're traveling when suddenly your headlights illuminate The Cabin!!!
Ok, that was Ed Harley headed for Haggis' place in Pumpkinhead. And there were no streetlights to begin with....
In the last few hours I've seen my daughter cheer wildly while listening to Doctor King's speech and again when a broken down Caddy pulled out in front of us as it was leaving Burger King.... across two lanes of traffic. The screams were generated by different emotions. I was proud of the first round of hoots and hollers but I hated having to explain the second as the Caddy pulled up next to us at a stoplight with the driver shoving the last remnants of a Whopper down her throat, tossing a toy into the back seat and screaming at the children when they started fighting over it.
Holly asked us to find Dr. King's speech for her. She's heard so many good things about it that it became a project. She listened with headphones as the text of the speech came up on the screen (MrsKol found the link so I'll have to get her to duplicate the search).
My children have no prejudices at this point in their lives. Unfortunately they'll develope their own because they are white and American. They're Christian and Catholic by birth as well so they're already categorized. Not by kids their own age but by adults.
The guests at Holly's birthday party were predominantly African American Females. Through the eyes of those children I was blind to color and saw only a bunch of people of different races and ages enjoying each other's company.
Dr. King had a legitimate dream. It's only the "rednecks" and the "niggers" that fuck up that dream.
Well, that and poeple like Rev. Jackson and that other Jackson kid... And Rush, (not the band),. Shit like that.
I'mma go play with my kids.

what i love is that we have a whole group of kids out there in america who can no longer identify wholly with one race or another. a group of adults will classify them when they are little based on what they "look" most like, or which race they grow up with, but the kids themselves generally go through different periods where they try to be one thing or another in their teens or early 20s, and finally accept being what they really are, which is a person. to be able to explain mixed race to a child helps them develop a predisposition for color-blindness.
my daughter, in winter, looks like a caucasion with a good tan, and in the summer she looks like a mexican with red highlights. she speaks both languages and handles a soccer ball like a young mia hamm. but that's where the racial stereotypes stop. other than that, she's just a kid.
