View Full Version : The "Sign-In and discuss once you've Voted today" thread
I drive right by the county barn, where my voteing place is, on my way to work. So this morning I just left a few minutes early and there was no voting at the county barn. The voting was moved to the new volunteer firehouse, which I also drive by, so I stopped in there. I was 20+ years younger than anyone else in the place, it's like being a baby at a college football game. But I showed them my voters registration card, the looked me up on th elist and stamped me as "voted" and I took my ballot. There where 18 elections on this years ballot. Several of them where non-contested (I don't give votes to ppl whom aren't being elected) A few of the candidates (all judges) I knew absolutely nothing about (I don't vote for ppl I don't know) But there where 5 major races which i knew I had to vote in.
I did not vote for a presidential candidate (despite my on going joke about writing in walter williams whom I'd love to see elected president)
Last night I had quite atalk with my 7 year old daughter who was very angry that John kerry is a liar (she saw his duck hunting trip video and, being a very young hunter and shooter, realised how full of shit he is) So she insisted that I should vote for George Bush. I explained to her that I wasn't voting for either of those men. And she was dumbfounded about why I wanted John Kerry, the liar, to win.
Do you want to know what cable news and political ad's do?
There you have it.
I couldn't get her to understand my opinion but at least she knows there are more options than TV shows you. This morning I exercised some of my options.
I know that lot of you won't get to vote until this evening but feel free to chime in once you've cast your ballot.
(I'll sticky this for today)

I voted Absentee a few weeks back.
I find it interesting that in a number of the elections there was only a single candidate. I said to myself, "Self, you could've done something and had your name on here. People vote partisan all the time. . .I could get a nice percentage not even trying, but relying on simply party affiliation."
That would be funny.

I'll vote in the evening with PB after she's off werk.
And I'll reply in this thread regardless of whether or not I've voted yet.
This is America, gosh darn it!
Maddy said they had to vote at her school for president. I asked her who she voted for, she said, "George Washington."
I'm voting tonight with Mr. Flap and I am well aware of who I'm voting for.. and I find it interesting that before being married to Mr. Flap.. I didn't care... now I do..
My son's school also did a vote.. George Bush won, and Devin told us the reason he voted for George Bush was because he likes Sport Stories or something another...
Sport Stories - President = Not sure where those two come together.. but I'm guessing the teacher made it all make sense.

Next election's plan: Vote early, and take a 2 week vacation.

My dad woke me up at 6 am with a phone call to tell me to go vote. Apparently he feels there must be some extra-credit involved for voting early. As with Mac, there were only a few of us at the election place under 200 years old. Funny that Mac mentioned not voting for uncontested races because neither do I.

I did not vote. Louisiana requires your existing license, your SS card, and a birth certificate to change your drivers license from your previous state of residence, and getting a copy of my birth cert. took too long - by the time it arrived I no longer had 30 days before the registration so therefor could not vote in this election.
Oh well. Al Sharpton needed my vote, dammit.

i voted.
it was the election box i usually work at, however that was before the election judge's new daughter-in-law moved to town. i guess she figured that chick needed the money more than i did. anyway, i was not the only person there under 200. a very cute guy about 30ish pulled up as eva and i were getting out of the car to ask me if this was the voting spot, then followed us in to vote.
i remember when i was a kid, back in the day when kids were allowed to stay home by themselves. i guess i was about 4 and mac was about 7. mom and dad left us home and disappeared to some mystical "voting place". they came back and i asked who they voted for. dad told me it was impolite to ask. i had no idea what they did there, and since kids weren't allowed i assumed they drank coffee and vodka tonics and smoked cigarettes.
i'm very glad i can take my daughter with me to vote. she gets to see from a young age what voting is and how it works. i think it makes it more likely that she will also vote when her turn comes. it will be demystified for her and she won't be as daunted by the task.
this is one of the few times i was glad i could take my three-year-old with me to do a "grown-up" thing.

well, incase you didn't know, basically it boils down to this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/americas/04/vote_usa/map/html/default.stm
Bush: 254 electoral votes
Kerry: 252 electoral votes
there are two states left which have not finalised results; new mexico (5 electoral votes) and iowa (7 electoral votes)
12 votes won't give either guy 270
but Ohio has 150,000 (or so) provissional ballots left before it give out its 20 electoral votes which will seal the deal. Ohio law says the provisional ballots cannot be counted for 10 days.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=2&u=/ap/20041103/ap_on_el_pr/eln_ohio_vote_count
In Ohio the popular vote is currently split like this:
Bush: 2,794,346
Kerry: 2,658,125
so roughly 136,000 votes seperate the two men....but it is INCREDIBLY unlikely that Kerry could get 136,000 out of 150,000 votes. That's over 90%.
Bush has declared his victory. It seems right but we shall see.

Clarification: The Bush Administration has declared victory, but the Pres. has not said anything.
