In 1809 James Madison was sworn in as the 4th president of the United States. This short, unassuming man did much to make our country's founding great.
He convinced the Virginia Convention to throw out the Articles of Confederation and thus became the father of the constitution.
He was a leading advocate for freedom of religion at the virginia constitutional convention.
He was fundamental in writing the bill of rights.
He founded the dept's of war, treasury, and state,
He was also the president when the British torched the White House during the war of 1812......and they named a bunch of snack cakes after his wife, Dolley Madison.
but most importantly he was president in an era when the guy with the most votes was elected President and the man with the second highest number of votes was elected Vice President
and his first Vice President was George Clinton!
that's right! As much as our patriotic forefathers respected and admired the founders of their constitution they loved the funk almost as much.
(considering he was a member of parliment, I guess that makes sense)
so as we go into this presidential election I want you to think back on the past runner-ups in our country's history.
And don't let revisionist history get you down.
After all you have the right to keep and bear bop-guns
